The Joyce Foundation project

Timeline

Spring 2019 - Spring 2022

Summary

The Ohio State University is committed to increasing enrollment and graduation rates of low-income students on its selective Columbus campus. Of the nearly 12,000 new students entering Ohio State each autumn, in 2017, 55% were new first-year students entering the Columbus campus; the remainder enrolled at an open-access regional campus (24%), or transferred from another college to the Columbus campus (20%). With support from the Joyce Foundation, Ohio State’s Office of Student Academic Success is working to improve the success of regional campus-change and community college transfer students through a strategic planning process, including an assessment of current practices from the perspective of faculty and staff. In parallel with the strategic planning process, we conducted both qualitative and quantitative studies of the student experience, including interviews with students who have transferred or are planning to transfer to Ohio State.
