Course Shopping study
Timeline
Summer 2016 – Autumn 2019
Summary
Nationally, 5% of four-year college students “shop” for summer courses from community colleges, and these students have six-year graduation rates 21 percentage points higher than peers who never took courses from a community college. To better understand the motivation and consequences of course shopping we analyzed a dataset that includes nearly 100,000 degree-seeking students who first entered the university between Fall 2009 and Fall 2015, comprising demographic data, course enrollment, and external course transfer-in records, tracked through January 2018.
